The depth of production of customer products on XELLAR Technologies' innovative production facilities is increasing more and more. In addition to the integration of punching and cutting technology into the modular XELLAR roll forming systems, a friction stir welding system was developed as part of a project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), which allows for welding different materials in a continuous process to form tailor-welded coils.
The semi-finished products can be welded together in different sheet thicknesses as well as in different materials; for example, composites made of aluminum and steel can be produced. The clever combination makes it possible to produce lightweight structures that enable significant CO2 savings over the entire period of the products lifetime.
The newly developed roll forming module “XELLAR Roll” in size 400 serves as the basis for implementing the system. This unit can be used to form semi-finished products with an inlet width of up to 400 mm and a sheet thickness of 3.5 mm, even in higher-strength steel grades. The roll forming unit for friction stir welding can be viewed at our exhibition stand 3105 in Hall 3.
